Cortez Eatmon Shooting: GBI Investigating Fatal Police Shooting in Cobb County

Authorities are investigating a fatal officer-involved shooting that left 25-year-old Cortez Eatmon dead outside Town Center Mall in Cobb County, Georgia.

According to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI), the incident happened after police responded to a reported shoplifting call at the mall. Officers reportedly approached a man believed to be the suspect before a chase began in the parking lot.

Investigators say officers attempted to use a Taser during the encounter, but it was unsuccessful. Police later claimed Eatmon displayed a handgun, leading an officer to open fire.

Eatmon was taken to a nearby hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

The GBI has launched an independent investigation into the shooting. Officials say the case will be reviewed once investigators finish collecting evidence and witness statements.

Authorities have not yet released additional details, including possible body camera footage from the scene.

The investigation remains ongoing.
